The Lesbian & Gay Foundation (LGF) is the UK's largest lesbian, gay and bisexual health and community charity. Based in Manchester, LGF is a nationally significant organisation providing services and activities throughout Greater Manchester and the North West of England working towards real, long-term improvements in the health and quality of life for lesbians, gay men and bisexual people. Among it’s many services are:

  • Telephone Helpline (automated 24 hours, staffed between 6pm-10pm daily) and e-mail advice service.
  • Face to face counseling and holistic therapies
  • Social and support groups
  • Health campaigns.
  • outnorthwest community magazine;
  • Condom and lube distribution scheme (gay and bi men)

Flying the Flag

To mark IDAHO 2009, The Lesbian & Gay Foundation are leading a campaign across Greater Manchester to mark the day.  Funded by the Association of Greater Manchester Authorities, we have launched "Flying the Flag", a campaign to encourage local authorities and other organisations such as the NHS, Police, Fire and education establishments from across the County to fly a rainbow flag from their buildings to mark International Day Against Homophobia.

LGF Outreach Clinic

The LGF runs a weekly outreach clinic so you can make time for a sexual health check–up.

Their Outreach Clinic allows gay and bisexual men in Manchester the opportunity to get a full sexual health check up in a relaxed and confidential environment. Women should be referred to their local GUM clinic.

Testing includes:
• Chlamydia (urine test)
• Gonorrhoea (urine test)
• Syphilis (Blood test)
• HIV (Blood test)
• Hepatitis B (Blood test)
• We also offer Hep B vaccinations.

Swabs:
• Throat swabs are taken for STIs in the throat (Testing for Gonorrhoea) (Taken by nurse)
• Anal swabs for STIs in anus (Testing for Chlamydia and Gonorrhoea) (Taken by client)

The clinic is held at The Basement Sauna, H20 Zone Sauna, Heat Sauna and The Rembrandt Hotel on a rotating basis, every Monday.
