Remember, reflect, react
LGF host Holocaust Memorial Day in Manchester

Remember, reflect, react

Saturday, 12 January 2008

Manchester’s Lesbian and Gay Foundation are to host a free film screening of ‘Paragraph 175’ to remember the gay and lesbian people who were killed during the horrific 20th Century holocaust.

Part of the Holocaust Remembrance Day this film will highlight the atrocities so many suffered at the hands of the Nazi’s leading up to and during World War II. Many minorities suffered oppression during the Holocaust and gay people were one of the main targets, viewed as scum by the Nazi’s. It is thought that over 80,000 gay men were imprisoned, tortured and placed into slave labour with many others forced into marriage or hiding.

A spokesperson for the Lesbian and Gay Foundation commented: “We would like to offer the North West community an opportunity to remember the millions of people who were targeted, killed and tortured during the Holocaust through a free documentary film showing. The event will also hopefully spark debate on how the queer community can help to make sure that something like the Holocaust never happens again!” The theme for 2008’s Holocaust Memorial Day is ‘Imagine - remember, reflect, react’ and it is hoped in doing so we can remember and lean from the past.

January 27th 2008. 7pm.
The Lesbian & Gay Foundation, Princess House, 105-107 Princess Street, Manchester
