Finally, it was here - and the weather was perfect! A gathering of several hundred walkers, including Sir Ian McKellan, Sue Perkins, Simon Fanshawe and our own David Panter (Chief Executive of Brighton & Hove).

The walk started from the Peace Statue in Hove, along the seafront to the King Alfred Centre, then doubling back - past the burning Essex flesh on the beach to the Palace Pier, stopping for a few beers at Charles Street, Amsterdam or Legends (a few not materialising again). Then up to Sussex Square (where a few short cuts were apparently made) and down through Kemptown and St James' Street to the Pavilion and the glorious beer tent in the gardens. Phew!

...after the walk, a party upstairs at Envy. One or two glasses of kindly donated bubbly helped to sooth corns and bunions.

It was rather odd, but rather good that it was just a stroll. No fanfares, placards or gathered crowds to watch the spectacle. Although a map was provided, the route proved to be a bit hit-or-miss. We lost Sue Parkins altogether and think that she may still be wandering aimlessly around Worthing...

Scorching sun, clean, crisp seaside air and plenty of good cheer made the afternoon a special one for everyone who took part.

about Stonewall

While politics and community issues may seem like a distraction to partying the night away, lunching with friends or shopping for the latest designer gear, it is, nevertheless, imperative that everyone in the UK – gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender or straight, makes time for an organisation such as Stonewall.
